With Give Us The Moon the Swedish band takes flight for the seventh time into my guilty pleasure neon heaven. The journey begins with familiar sounds in “Stratus” and “Shooting Velvet” as expected—funky, poppy, and rock-infused. However, they don’t play it completely safe; in “Like The Beating Of The Heart” they experiment with a disco-funk approach, while one of my highlights, “Paloma” ventures into clear Synthwave territory. Both songs manage to explore these experiments without going too far.

All in all, fans of the band will be completely satisfied with this album, especially those who have frequently jet-set with The Night Flight Orchestra through the night sky. The album is neither a step forward nor a step back, but rather a step to the side, as one cannot perceive stagnation like this; it expands their own AOR repertoire with new ideas. And the music remains incredibly catchy—one cannot deny that the band is doing something right when you find yourself dancing around the apartment while listening to the album. In spite of its length, the album still brought me a lot of fun. I hope I’ll be flying with the Swedes live anytime soon.
