Coldspine – Nullpunkt (Review)

Trier, a city rich in history, is not typically known for its music scene—especially when it comes to metal. However, Coldspine is currently making a significant impact in the underground scene. Their debut album, Nullpunkt, was released on December 13, 2024, and it unquestionably deserves everyone’s attention.

The record is packed with nine tracks that deliver dark, atmospheric, and crushing doom metal. From the very first track, listeners are drawn into a world where heavy, brooding beats blend seamlessly with fleeting melodic moments. “Torture Rack” feels like a free fall into a never-ending abyss. Coldspine’s sound is influenced by bands like Primitive Man and Thou, but their approach is far from a mere imitation.

The dystopian atmosphere, occasionally lifted by delicate melodic touches, forms the core of the band’s identity. The drums, in particular, create a groovy vibe that adds a refreshing dynamic to the heavy sound. There is a constant sense of impending chaos, yet the melodies offer brief moments of respite, giving the listener space to breathe.
