Roman’s Favorite Demos and EPs of 2024

Yes, it wasn’t enough space to come up with a list of 10 favorite full-length releases. This is why I also added a list talking about the favorite EPs and Demos, since there was also a lot that happened in 2024.

Ultrablut – Teneriffa
[Santa Diabla Records]

This debut release by Wuppertal wild mixture group Ultrablut was a refreshing surprise. Blending a large share of your favorite genres in the most untypical manner brought forth an EP that definitely showcased that it is still possible to individually put the pieces together.

Wonderful World – Universal Tension
[Side2Side Records]

The hype about the NRW Hardcore scene is damn real, bringing forth a huge amount of great new artists. With their debut EP, Wonderful World convinced me already and with this sophomore EP, they clearly stated that they are capable of upholding their highly furious sound.

Echo Chamber – Self-Titled
[DBNO Records]

I can still remember some members in our Team TMB chat going crazy about Echo Chamber and their first demo. I was in damn awe when I saw that an upcoming EP was set to be released on DBNO Records and it clearly returned with the highly convincing yet strongly refreshing NYHC sound.

Mißträu – Gegendemonstration
[Cirsium Kollektivet]

When seeing the sigil of Cirsium Kollektivet, you know already that you will face a sound that will surprise you. With their debut EP Gegendemonstration, Mißträu succeeded interconnecting the genres of Post-Punk and Black Metal. When reading the merging of these genres, it might sound weird, but I highly recommend listening into this EP in order to find out that this is a perfect match.

riot but cute. – reality
[Self-Released]

Yes, I know. riot but cute also released an entire EP in 2024. Yeah, you’re right. But hell, I absolutely fell for those two tracks (still also loving the i’m moving in w/u EP). Especially the first track on this EP (single?) is a welcoming and warm hug of Emo beauty. Listen to everything these guys released, it’s all worth the time.

Scoop – Curb Justice
[Lower Class Kids Records]
[Pushteek]
[Vřesová Studánka]

Harshly gritty, reverb-laden and ferociously ugly Raw Punk straight from the gutters of Prague. This is the soundtrack to get mad to, kick in whatever blocks your way and get fully wasted.

hey, nothing – Maine
[Self-Released]

Entirely acoustic Folk Emo that got me hooked with the release of the EP-titled track “Maine.” If – at some point in your life – you fell for Emo music, just give the entire EP one spin and I promise you that at least at one spot you will fall for this sound and wrap yourself in the warmth that its sadness radiates.

Chronic Pissed – Demo
[Self-Released]

chronic pissed cover

The harsh and highly energetic tone that picks you up right from the beginning of this EP immediately caught my attention. I cannot remember how I came across this EP, but I know that I came back listening to this numerous times. This is a refreshing and straightforward mixture of Hardcore Punk and Powerviolence.

Blastard – Demo 2024
[Self-Released]

Blastard - Demo Cover

Everyone was all hyped seeing Terrorizer at numerous shows this year – for a damn good reason – but if you did so, you might be very interested also checking out this first demo by Cologne Grind combo Blastard. This sound merges Death Metal and Grindcore in the finest manner and gets you highly interested in more.

Mauler – Demo
[Self-Released]

mauler - demo cover

I’m not sure if it was just my bubble but I felt as if this demo was all over the place after its release. Mauler deliver crushing, and unpolished Death Metal for the hearts of the underground.
