Highways are still a bit empty, calendars have not been updated and most of the upcoming catastrophes are yet to be revealed and to be unfolded. Time to fill this gap of horrific imagination with some Metal from the southwest of Germany. Roughly two years after their first EP Reversion of the Repressed, Dysphoric Devotion is the debut album by Karlsruhe’s GREH and what a kickstart for 2025 this is.
Prior to this release GREH already unleashed three tracks of it onto the world: “Chained Thoughts“, “Illusional Cenotaph” and “Thy Breath Not Mine“. Those three have now been remixed for this release and offer even more punch now. They are also a good starting point if you want to know what to expect from Dysphoric Devotion.
Although being a constant beating, it is surely remarkable that Dysphoric Devotion doesn’t lack memorable moments. The aforementioned “Chained Thoughts” or title track for example will stick to you ears for days (“DON’T GET CLOSE TO ME“). From time to time even some Doom passages are thrown into the mix keep things even lower, like in “All Flesh Decays” or the 6-feet-deep album closer “Enter My Oblivion“.
8 tracks of groove, heaviness and vile compressed in 3 to 4 minute bursts. End your new year’s lethargy right now with GREH. Dysphoric Devotion is blistering Blackened Death Metal done crushingly right.
