Futuristic dystopias have always been a thing for me. May it be video-games like Fallout or Borderlands or movies like Bladerunner or Mad Max. Something is just cool about resetting the cultural standards and turning ethical values back to the primitive times. Neuropunk Boostergang is the perfect soundtrack to this future. This future is not bleak, it is wild, fast und loud, “Future-Thrash” if you need a tag to put on. Producer Kurt Ballou took care of the right “grain” on the sound of Neuropunk Boostergang, so the future doesn’t sound too polished..
Neuropunk Boostergang is a straightforward record, most of the songs clock in around the 3,5 minute mark, but the songs that stuck out to me the most, are the ones, that are 5 minutes and more (“Neuropunk Boostergang“, “Cryptosteal” and “C.O. III: Quest for Future“).
„Cryptosteal“ starts with atmospheric electric sounds just to drift into this punishing drum beat which gets faster and faster until the song ends. “Neuropunk Boostergang” pretty music sums this album up, you got some electronic twitches, high speed and some just “rocking” (I hate this word) parts. “C.O. III: Quest for Future” closes this album in an epic fashion. Eight minutes, several rhythm changes and D-Beat-passages that remind me of Disfear. What a great way to go.
Neuropunk Boostergang is an exciting Thrash record that can’t be put in any era. It’s not like a homage to the 80s or something like that, it stands on its own and that is rare thing in these days.
